Curated Sand Exfoliants

Orange sand

Beach sand is a great exfoliant.

Sand is everywhere! So prevalent is sand in various forms that we usually do not give it much thought.

Well, I did not give it that much thought either. That is, until I went to Maui in the winter of 2011. It was one of those ah-hah moments, when I realized just how potent sand is, and what an important part it could play in the beautification process if used properly.

I have used different types of skin scrubs and facial agents, including salt, sugar and sand based exfoliants. These products do take the dead cells off your skin. But they also, by their very nature, extract some of the body’s moisture content, leaving behind, dry skin.

It was a beautiful day, and I was laying on the beach in Maui. The sky was very clear – so blue it felt unearthly. All around me was beautiful orange sand. Yes, such beauty is sinful (lol). I was taking it all in, enjoying the moment. Absently, I noticed a bit of dry skin, so I grabbed a handful of sand and rubbed it on my skin and exfoliated the dry part away. The wet sand left a really great feeling on my skin. The wet sand actually nourished and moisturized my skin, in addition to removing the dead cells.

The feeling I got was exhilarating!

So, I went back to my suite and started making some phone calls. I decided to ask the experts – geologists and dermatologists what they knew about sand. You see, not all sand will nourish your skin. Some sand will actually damage your skin. The sand I had used contained natural minerals that were specifically good for the human skin.

So, we decided to mix things up a little bit and add some natural moisturizers in the form of 100% oil extracts from several tropical plants. Yes, you guessed right – we made magic! The final product exfoliated, moisturized and revitalized the skin, all in one stroke.

And that is how the SkinGlow by Kimmarie curated skin exfoliants were created. You have to try them for yourself. They are magical.
